The official Carnival is the parade of Rio Samba Schools, in Marquês de Sapucaí street, designed by Oscar Niemeyer in 1984. Sambodromo is also used for concerts, events or for sports – like it was for the Olympics (2016).
in March 2019, on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd, small schools – beginners – will have a parade. On Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th, it will be the “special group”, best schools worldwide. It’s a show prepared for a year, and a jury is evaluating everything, remaining a place where sambistas, tourists and danceurs are mixed.

On Saturday 9th of March, it will be the “champion parade” where the 6 winners show their happiness to everyone!

They are blocos (bands) dancing and playing on the street all day long in Rio's streets. It begins before the official carnival, it's for free and the atmosphere is amazing. You can find blocos from 300 to 1.000.000 participants (cordão de bola preta, monobloco...) and with a multitude of music styles (samba, marchinha de carnaval, electro, funk - favela's - remix of Beatles...). So, have a look, you'll find your happiness.
