...and what's around
From Ipanema beach to Maracanã stadium, you discover Copacabana’s Orla, Arpoador’s sunset, Lapa’s nightlife atmosphere, Santa Teresa bohemian hills, Centro restlessness… It’s better to stay for a week so that you may have time to discover all the things Rio has to offer, using local transports (buses, subway, taxi or uber).
Then, go on a journey in costa verde (Ilha Grande, Paraty, Trindade), in “lakes region” (Arraial, Buzios…), or even mountains (Maromba, Petrópolis…)
Warning ! Getting around, in Brazil is quite harder than in Europe.
Traffic jam is regular, boards infrequents and Brazilians way of driving is quite ...disconcerting...

Rio de Janeiro <--> Buzios, Arraial do Cabo...
It’s sometimes difficult to find a location in Rio because of all these hills…
Feel free to print this MAP and to take it away on your journey.
Very useful, comfortable and a good price (R$4.10), the subway enables you to visit the whole zona sul without spending all your money in a taxi… 3 subway lines :
- one is made for northern Rio (green line)
- this one to get into zona sul (southern part)
- the new subway line that brings you until barra da tijuca, a very nice disctrict quite far away from the city center – came out for the Olympics
